Is there any book in particular that you've read and really liked? It can be any book: a longish one like Harry Potter or Percy Jackson, or a short one like a Dr. Seuss book. Or anything in between.

Do you wish you could write a book like that? Well, if you do, great job! You are one step closer to seeing your name on the New York Times bestseller list.

So, let's kick this thing off. What do you see in this picture?

An abstract image of lights

Your answer can be whatever you want. It could be serious: "a bunch of lights scattered across the floor and taped to the wall," or it could be abstract! There's no right or wrong answer here, so say what you like.

Are you confused about the point of this exercise? Well, it was to test your ability as a writer. Practically everyone can write well, but the main way to become a true writer is to use your imagination and find a writing style that fits you. So, if you chose to describe exactly what you saw, you're on your way to becoming an amazing writer.

I made this website for people like you who could very well grow up to be bestselling authors. Here is a treasure trove of tips, stories and poems, advice and writing prompts of all kinds. You're a good writer, even if you don't realize it.
